Mixology, Cocktail trends, Culinary history
- Brianna has worked on all sides of the food and beverage industry, from assisting award-winning chefs in the kitchen to writing recipes for magazines.
- She first discovered her passion for mixology when she completed a certification course in it on a whim back in 2010 — she maintains that the Old Fashioned is the best cocktail to gauge a bartender's skill.
- A former craft beer description writer and total film geek, she once got told to "tone down the deep cut references" when comparing types of hops to different movie directors.
Experience
Originally an East Coast news journalist who moonlighted as a bartender, Brianna Gunter is a Seattle-based writer who loves covering unique angles in the industry (like what it takes to brew beer at high altitude) and exploring the positive impact bars and restaurants often have on the communities around them. Her work has appeared in numerous food and beverage-focused publications, including The Northwest Beer Guide, Real Simple, Travel + Leisure, and Eater. She has visited (and dined in) all 50 U.S. states and several countries, and she's yet to find a place without its own unique culinary twist.
Education
Brianna holds a B.A. in journalism and professional writing from The College of New Jersey. She is also quite proud of having obtained her Cicerone Level 1 "Certified Beer Server" certification with a perfect score, as well as her certification in mixology, during which she crafted 12 cocktails in under four minutes and 30 seconds.
